Sonatus, a leading supplier of software products and solutions that accelerate the shift to software-defined vehicles, today announced that the safety module for its groundbreaking Sonatus Automator AI orchestration product has achieved the stringent ASIL-D functional safety certification under the ISO 26262 standard. This certification is crucial for mitigating risks in safety-critical automotive applications, providing OEMs and tier-1 suppliers with the confidence to meet the industry safety standards required in today’s interconnected vehicle architectures. This certification confirms that Sonatus Automator AI is now enabled for safety-critical use cases.
Sonatus Automator AI empowers OEMs to create new vehicle functions quickly, streamline vehicle testing and diagnostics, implement personalization, deploy customizable fleet management features, and countless other capabilities. To ensure this powerful capability preserves vehicle functional safety, Sonatus implemented a functional safety module, to ensure that Automator AI actions only occur when functionally safe. Automator AI’s functional safety module, Automator Safety Interlock, is certified by UL Solutions to ISO26262, achieving ASIL-D capability. This certification demonstrates Sonatus’ commitment to delivering cutting-edge, safety-compliant software solutions. ISO 26262, a global benchmark for automotive safety, confirms Sonatus’ ability to meet the most demanding standards for distributed vehicle systems. The certificate from UL Solutions is available on the Sonatus website.
“Sonatus products are in mass production in millions of vehicles, so we recognize the importance of integration with our OEM and tier-1 customers, including ensuring our products can be incorporated seamlessly into functionally safe subsystems,” said Yu Fang, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Sonatus. “Sonatus Automator AI unlocks unparalleled capabilities for OEMs, and the addition of ISO 26262 ASIL-D functional safety certification provides our customers the confidence to employ this solution for a diverse set of value-creating use cases.”
In addition to its in-house functional safety expertise, Sonatus partnered with leading industry safety consultants LHP Engineering Solutions to co-develop a robust solution and support Sonatus in achieving the ASIL-D level of functional safety. More details on the approach taken, including the collaboration with LHP, can be found in a technical blog post.
“We have been impressed with the Sonatus team and their products, including Sonatus Automator AI, that provides a clear and effective solution for OEMs to deploy unique new capabilities in functionally safe subsystems,” said Steve Neemeh, President & CTO from LHP Engineering Solutions. “LHP leadership has decades of experience in supporting customers to achieve functional safety certification in Automotive and other industries and ensuring their safety programs meet the highest standards. We are proud to support Sonatus to stand up functional safety processes.”
Sonatus Automator AI is currently in final vehicle testing, with customer production to be announced. In January, Sonatus will demonstrate several important use cases of Automator AI at the Consumer Electronics Show 2025 in Las Vegas, NV.
